For a long time, BOTOX® injections were the only option for the elimination of wrinkles caused by muscles in the face. Until recently, there were no BOTOX® alternative treatments worth the name. Anyone who wanted to get rid of the kind of wrinkles caused by muscle tension needed to go to the cosmetologist or plastic surgeon for BOTOX® injections.
But now, there is a BOTOX® alternative - Argireline or acetyl hexapeptide-3 - that promises to work as well as, if not even better than, BOTOX® serum. First we'll discuss what BOTOX® injections do exactly, then go on to discuss the promise of this new BOTOX® alternative.
BOTOX® serum is a neurotoxin derived from a type of bacteria called botulinum. Botulinum produce a waste product that's extremely toxic to humans. Called botulinum toxin or more commonly botulism, botulinum toxin is the stuff that makes people really sick when they eat improperly canned foods. Botulism poisoning can even be fatal.
BOTOX® treatment consists of injecting a very small amount of this poison under the skin. The BOTOX® serum paralyzes small muscles near the injection area. This leads to an extremely limited facial paralysis, which is good because it counteracts the kind of wrinkles caused by tensed muscles.
The FDA has approved BOTOX® injections for only a very limited area of the face, less than 5% of the total. Also, BOTOX® injections wear off within 3-9 months, so injections must be repeated on a regular basis. So even this miracle procedure has some limitations.
Argireline, a BOTOX® alternative found in some anti aging skin care products, relaxes facial muscles. This leads to the relaxation of the tension that contributes to lines and wrinkles. Researchers think Argireline works by inhibiting the release of neurotransmitters released by the brain that tell these facial muscles to tense. The result? A more relaxed face, and fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
The effects of Argireline are very similar to those of BOTOX® injections. But where the FDA only allows BOTOX® serum to be injected in limited areas of the face, Argireline may be applied wherever lines and wrinkles appear. One published study showed a 30% reduction in wrinkle size after only 30 days of using Argireline as a BOTOX® alternative
Without a doubt. BOTOX® injections can only address wrinkles in limited areas, where BOTOX® alternative can be applied anywhere on the face. Additionally, Argireline does not require needles or injections. The price of a product containing Argireline is also extremely competitive compared to the price of BOTOX® treatment.
The only downside of using Argireline as a BOTOX® alternative is that results take longer to materialize and are more gradual. But if you can live with that, we heartily recommend Argireline over BOTOX® injections.
